Amy Carmichael: Rescuer of Precious Gems by Janet & Geoff Benge, written by Brianna Eschen, age 14
Amy was an kind and spirited Irish girl who was always look for ways to serve people. She was the oldest of seven children and as her father died when she was 18 a lot of the family responsibility fell to her. As the kids grew older the spread out across the globe, some even going to Canada and the U.S. to live. Her mother got a job in England so Amy went with her. It wasn’t long after this that she felt that God had called her to the mission field so she packed up her bags to follow God’s call. Eventually she settled down in India and began a ministry specifically to the little girls there. This book tells the story of her life and of her time serving the people of the countries she worked in and sharing the news of God’s love to rich and poor alike. I enjoyed it very much and would highly recommend it to girls and boys of all ages.
